Interested in joining our
Autumn Allemande Community Quilt?
A quilt helps us manage sound reverberation in our dance halls, and is also an opportunity to come together as a community to build our history!
How it Works
Email moc.e1770115560cnada1770115560rtnoc1770115560airot1770115560civ@n1770115560eb1770115560 to tell us you’re interested, and how many squares you expect to make. Please email before February 28th. You’ll be added to a WhatsApp group where we can all chat, coordinate, and help each other out!
Each participant will make 1-6 top quilt squares according to the templates below. You can also do one large combined square or rectangle.
We’ll also host some crafty afternoons where we can all get together and quilt!
Squares should be completed and handed in to Ben before July 31st. You can find him at most dances or ask in the group chat for a meetup.
Once all the squares are collected, Ben and some crafty accomplices will sew them all together into a quilt, with batting, backing, and trim. The size will depend on how many squares we get.
The finished quilt will be hung up at this year’s Autumn Allemande! It will also be used at our regular dances to help with sound reverberation – very much needed at our new boomy hall.
Template

A basic square should be 6″ by 6″, with your design taking up the centre 5″, which provides a 0.5″ seam allowance.
You can also make a larger square which should be 11″ by 11″, with your design taking up the centre 10″, which provides a 0.5″ seam allowance.
Please try to make your pieces as square and accurately sized as possible! This will make final assembly go much smoother. It can sometimes help to start with an oversized cut, and trim it to final size at the very last step.
If you like, sign your name on your squares!
Theme
Our theme is loosely based around the Autumn Allemande, and dancing.
Some examples:
- Fall colours
- Forests, mushrooms, leaves, wildlife, larks and robins
- Dancing figures (or animals!)
- Musical Instruments and notes
- Whatever else you think of!
Materials and Methods
You can use any fabric material you like, with any sort of stitching, embroidery, weaving, or other fibre art. The quilts will just be hung on walls, and never go through a washing machine, so delicate squares are no problem.
